Musky fishing at Lake Adger
Lake Adger is a great place for fishing. The lake is stocked every October with muskellunge (musky) as part of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources fish stocking program.
When they’re released, the fish average 8”-18” in length. But the lake is also home to a few monsters— including a 52-incher (!) that’s one of the largest muskies every caught in North Carolina.

There are no public campgrounds located directly on Lake Adger. However, Silver Creek Campground is located in Mill Spring, just a short drive from the lake. From there, you can drive to the Lake Adger public access boat ramp to enjoy a day on the water.

Lake Adger is a favorite spot for kayakers. From the public access boat ramp, you have two available routes:
Green River: An upstream paddle through shady wetlands.
Lake Adger: A downstream paddle to the top of the 100-foot hydroelectric dam.

No jet skiis, waterskiing, waterboarding, etc.
Horsepower is limited to 80 HP for pontoons / 60 HP for all other boats.
All watercraft must be properly licensed and equipped.
Boaters are encouraged to create “no appreciable” wake after dark.
These restrictions are in place to maximize the full recreational use of the lake— including swimming, fishing, and kayaking— and ensure a tranquil environment. The lake is patrolled by the NC Department of Natural Resources.

How deep is Lake Adger?
Lake Adger is 72 feet deep (at its deepest point) with an average depth of 26 feet. This is an official measurement by the NC Department of Environmental Quality. Since the lake has a hydroelectric dam at one end, the water level can fluctuate up to 5 feet when the dam is active.

How did Lake Adger get its name?
Lake Adger got its name from John Adger Law, founder of Blue Ridge Power Company. He named it in honor of his mother, whose maiden name was Adger.
Originally, the lake was called Turner Shoals Lake. To this day, the lake’s hydroelectric dam is named Turner Shoals Dam.
